What’s the goal?

The main objective of MSCA Doctoral Networks is educating and shaping doctoral candidates as ones representing innovation, resilience, creativity, and entrepreneurship. By offering research training and mobility opportunities to doctoral candidates, it is expected that they will contribute to solving future economic and social challenges.

What you need to know:

  • The proposal must be submitted by a consortium.
  • The EU contribution per project can cover a maximum of 540 person-months.
  • Each beneficiary must employ at least one doctoral fellow under an employment contract or equivalent.

Doctoral candidate eligibility

  • Can be of any nationality.
  • Must not hold a PhD at the date of recruitment.
  • Must fulfill the mobility rule requirement, meaning that they must not have conducted their main work activities nor lived in the country of the Beneficiary for more than 12 months in the last 36 months before the recruitment date.
  • Must become enrolled in a doctoral programme.

MSCA Doctoral Networks Actions

Standard Doctoral Networks (DN)

  • Maximum action duration: 48 months, with the doctoral candidate fellowship length within the range of 3-36 months.
  • The total length of secondments cannot surpass half of the total fellowship duration per doctoral candidate.

Industrial Doctoral Networks  (DN-ID)

  • Maximum action duration: 48 months, with the doctoral candidate fellowship length within the range of 3-36 months.
  • The doctoral candidate must spend at least 50% of their fellowship time in the non-academic sector.

Joint Doctoral Networks (DN-JD)

  • Maximum action duration: 60 months, with the doctoral candidate fellowship length within the range of 3-48 months.
  • Following fellowship completion, the doctoral candidate should be awarded a joint, double, or multiple doctoral degree.
